AI and Learning

Smiling AI Teacher

AI is a buzz-word that has left many people confused, concerned, or underwhelmed. But I have recently watched some demonstrations and am currently developing in e-learning applications that are game changers. GPT has a new model, only available through OpenAI, which has a much more robust problem solving metric, and voice interactivity through the users device which is so conversational it is mind blowing. And this can be integrated right inside the SCORM packages. There is back-end server work needed to support this, but nothing out of the ordinary as it is an API integration.

There are two main goals in adding AI functionality to the e-learning courses that serve the learner:

1. If set up correctly, the AI can act as a coach within the courses. It now can understand and communicate verbally with learners right within the courses themselves and this new model is adept at problem solving in a way other models haven't been. This allows learners to ask the questions they are afraid to ask others, and it allows for real-time feedback on in-learning assignments if wanted.

2. Realistic dynamic simulations within the e-learning materials themselves.

The main driver of this company from the very beginning has been that practice is what drives results and change. With soft-skills in particular practicing is often difficult to do.

'Scenarios' within e-learning have always left a lot to be desired as they have been multiple choice and unrealistic.

For us, that meant brining in live-actors and letting the learners interact with them in realistic live-simulations. This means the learner doesn't have to put on a character, or feel judged in some way by the other person in the room. It's just practice and they can relax and respond as if it was the real situation with nothing on the line. It has worked well for us.

However, the costs go up quickly in that situation and timing becomes more of an issue.... as well, more training budgets want to get a longer/better return on the investment by having materials online and re-usable.

Well now we can supply realistic dynamic simulations within the courses themselves, which cuts down on cost, is repeatable, and frankly it is paradigm shifting.

Stay tuned, demonstrations are on the way!
